VHIS Information
The Health Bureau launched the Voluntary Health Insurance Scheme (VHIS) in April 2019. Bupa has registered as a VHIS provider. The effective date of Bupa's registration is 28 February 2019 and our registration number is 00020.
The Bupa MyBasic VHIS Plan (Standard Plan), Bupa MyFlexi VHIS Plan (Flexi Plan), Bupa Hero VHIS Plan (Flexi Plan) and Global Prestige VHIS Plan (Flexi Plan)are certified by the Health Bureau. Click “Learn more” to view the plan details.
Any Hong Kong taxpayer who has purchased an eligible health insurance plan (certified by the Health Bureau as VHIS) can claim a tax deduction on qualifying premiums up to HK$8,000 per insured person each year. These persons must be included in the list of “specified relatives” in Inland Revenue Ordinance (Cap. 112).
You can claim the deduction in the same tax year when the premium was paid. The deduction is available for Certified Plans with policy effective date of 1 April 2019 or later, but not any other optional benefits. There is no limit on the number of insured persons and/or policies claimed by each taxpayer. Policies purchased for a domestic partner, grandchild(ren) or domestic partner’s parents/children are not eligible for tax deduction.
For details about tax deduction, take a look at tax deduction FAQs (PDF, 897KB).
When you apply for an insurance policy (or make changes to your existing policy), the insurance company reviews your personal details (age, occupation, etc.), including your medical history. This is called underwriting.

Some of the terms used in the policy documents of our VHIS plans are different than the terms in our other Bupa insurance plans. Take a look at our glossary(PDF, 0.18MB) to learn more.
